WORKSHOPS

The studio at Healey Mill is a unique and inspiring place in which to work. Its rural, riverside location offers a wealth of subject matter. The studio itself is a bright contemporary space, on two floors, in what used to be a stable and granary.

The printmaking workshop is equipped with a Bewick and Wilson etching and relief press, which is highly geared and therefore effortless to use. It's a great space to work in.With fifteen years experience teaching undergraduates, my own workshops are designed to give you the confidence to go on and develop your own printmaking skills.

New dates for September 2025 are now on this page below and details will also be sent out to all those on my mailing list. Due to the rural location of my studio however it is not really viable to plan workshops during the winter months.

You can sign up to my mailing list (at the bottom of this page) and be the first to hear about new prints and workshops too. Do get in touch if you have any specific enquiries. I'll look forward to working with you.

2025 WORKSHOPS - NEW DATES

REDUCTION LINOCUT- AN INTRODUCTION

The 'Reduction' technique enables you to create multicoloured prints from a single piece of lino. You will learn how to develop, cut and print your design, (with and without the use of a press) within a small group, so with lots of individual tuition and guidance, to gain a general understanding of this technique. You will take away your own unique prints at the end of the day.

All of your materials are included together with refreshments throughout the day and a light lunch too.

No previous experience is required - this course is designed for complete beginners to enjoy and/or those with some previous printmaking experience.

PAINTERLY PRINTMAKING - MONOPRINTING

This workshop will suit those of you who are interested in learning a more painterly and experimental approach to printmaking, ranging from landscape inspired images, as shown here, to drawings as in my Beauty and the Beast monotype (see RA Summer Exhibition in news). Students will learn techniques for mark-making on a plate using water soluble printing inks and a variety of materials, textured papers and fabric for example, and tools which may include rollers, brushes and 'drawing' tools etc., and finally how to take a print from their artwork.

The nature of this process, as the name suggests, creates a one-off print, but the possibilities for experimentation are endless.

At the end of the day you will take away a range of your own unique prints.

All of your materials are included, refreshments throughout the day and a light lunch too.

No previous printmaking experience is required.
